Guilford’s sports information office typically employs students who enjoy sports and like to have a good time while making a few bucks. Student assistants play a big role in publicizing Guilford’s athletics department and enjoy some good hands-on experience (not to mention a few bucks). Students assist at home contests by collecting statistics and assisting the media. Office duties include writing press releases and game programs, research and basic copying and filing. There are also opportunities to develop more specific skills such as graphic design or photography. Student interested in botany, gardening, or greenhouse management needed to work in the Fulcher Botanical Garden and the Biology Department greenhouse. The Fulcher Garden is a large formal garden containing 250 trees and shrubs. Some species of perennials attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds are also part of the garden. Duties will include weeding, mulching, pruning, fertilizing, cleaning, potting plants, and general maintenance and upkeep of the garden and greenhouse. The Circulation assistant assists patrons in using the library collection and the building facilities. They maintain the copier and other equipment, send faxes, collect money for copies, faxes, and fines.
