Guilford College Phonathon
**We are no longer accepting applications for fall 2009 Phonathon**
Please check back for information about our spring 2010 Phonathon

What is Phonathon?
The Guilford College Phonathon is part of the college's annual giving program. For ten weeks every semester, students call alumni, parents and friends of the college to ask them to contribute to the annual fund. Students choose at least two nights to call from the Monday through Thursday, 6-9 p.m. schedule. Phonathon has evolved over the years from a small volunteer-based program to a full-fledged student job. In Fall 2006 the Phonathon moved from a rented space in New Garden Hall to the Office of Advancement, located in the Quaker Village Shopping Center. The Phonathon has its own call center, complete with twenty-two call stations. For a map of our location, please click here.
Why does Guilford College have a Phonathon? Doesn't the college have enough money?
Actually, tuition only covers approximately 80% of a Guilford education. The college depends on the support and generosity of its alumni and community members to continue to provide a quality education for each and every student. The Phonathon is one of the best ways to reach these people. As a Phonathon caller, you can feel proud of making a big impact on the future of Guilford College by raising a large portion of the annual funds - about one-fourth of the total giving! Additionally, Phonathon is not just about asking for money. Students reconnect alumni with Guilford College by updating their contact information and informing them about upcoming events. Many alumni enjoy hearing what current students are doing and swapping stories about Guilford.
Who can be a Phonathon caller?
All students, both traditional and CCE, are encouraged to consider becoming a Phonathon caller. Our student callers are a diverse group with a common goal of supporting Guilford College through their work. And unlike other campus jobs, you don't have to be a work study student to be a Phonathon caller!
Why should I join the Phonathon?
There are endless reasons why the Phonathon is the best Guilford job. Here's just a few:
- You will earn money while helping the college
- Choosing two to four weeknights to work lets your job work around your social calendar, and not the other way around!
- Games are played every night as an incentive and prizes are awarded in addition to your hourly wage
- Free snacks and drinks every night
- Theme nights and holiday parties!
- $$$$ for having fun... I mean, for "books"

I'm sold! What do I need to do?
The first thing to do is print the application. Once you fill it out, call or email Jill Hayes, the Phonathon coordinator, to schedule a time to bring your application in and interview. If you already know your schedule for the fall, be prepared to tell her the days you would like to work. Training starts Sept. 13 and calling begins Sept. 15.
