I learned about Guilford from one of my favorite high school teachers. He told me about Guilford and many of its unique qualities. After doing some research on my own I knew it was a place I wanted to attend.
As a varsity football player I had to find a successful balance between academics, athletics, clubs, and a social life. However, once I found this balance I was able to make the dean’s list both semesters of my freshman year, start at linebacker on the football team, become a member of the Guilford Christian Fellowship, and still have time to hang out on-campus and around Greensboro with friends. It felt a little overwhelming at first but once I found a successful balance of all my commitments I really fell in love with Guilford and all that it offers.
Guilford is a very unique school in many different areas. Small class sizes require students to understand the material beyond a superficial level. When a class with ten students is taught by a PhD. everyone must know the material thoroughly. Guilford’s professors are very approachable and always willing to help. At Guilford when you walk into a classroom you refer to your professors by their first names, as Anne or Craig not “Dr. Glenn” or “Dr. Eilbacher.” This helps eliminate any hierarchy in the classroom that might intimidate students at other colleges or universities. Ultimately the hands-on learning and discussion based classrooms set Guilford apart and make our graduates very appealing to graduate schools and prospective employers.
Upon graduation I plan on attending medical school and becoming a pediatrician. I never realized how lucky I was to attend Guilford until I visited friends at other schools. Guilford is a school unlike any other and I am confident that Guilford is preparing me to achieve all of my future endeavors.
