Public Safety Information

The Public Safety Office provides a variety of services to the college community which safeguard people, facilities and property. In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Police and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the Office of Public Safety publishes annually a Guide to Campus Safety that includes additional information regarding campus safety and procedures. In addition, this guide contains annual crime statistics for the preceding three calendar years. It is available in the Office of Public Safety and the Office for Campus Life and online at www.guilford.edu.

Keys to Academic Buildings

In certain cases students may procure keys to academic and work areas with a key request form signed by the department head responsible for the given area. The student requiring the key will be subject to the $25 deposit (per key) and all other key policies. Students who are officers of any campus club or organization must pay a fee of $25 deposit (per key) to obtain keys to office space. The student is responsible for this fee. Unless submitted in writing beforehand, this fee cannot be charged to club accounts without written documentation approved by the director of public safety. Keys and regulations specific to academic building keys are issued by the Facilities Department.

Individuals receiving keys share in the responsibility for the safety and security of the areas accessed by the keys. Therefore, they must safeguard the keys assigned to them, not loan keys or unlock doors for unauthorized users. Duplication of campus keys is strictly forbidden, and persons obtaining unauthorized duplicate keys are subject to disciplinary action. Lost keys must be reported immediately to the Facilities Department, the Office of Public Safety, and the department that authorized their issue.
