ADA Testing Accommodation Instructions
To be eligible to receive testing accommodations, students must complete the Disclosure and Accommodations Request form and submit appropriate documentation. The Disability Services Committee reviews the request and makes the decision to approve or deny the request. Once the testing accommodation has been approved by the committee, a 504 is completed with the disability services staff. The student is responsible for submitting the 504 to the instructor.
In order to insure that testing accommodations are handled to the satisfaction of the instructor and to meet the guidelines of the Learning Commons, some procedures have been developed.
- Complete the 504 with the disability services staff.
- Present the 504 to the instructor and explain your needs to the instructor. Learning Commons testing accommodations are only available for students who have presented a current 504. The standard testing accommodation is time and a half.
- At least 3 days prior to an exam, remind your instructor that you need testing accommodations.
- The Alternative Testing Agreement is completed by the instructor and sent to the Learning Commons along with the test at least one day in advance of the test. (Students may facilitate this process by bringing the form to the instructor.) We would be happy to e-mail the form to you or your instructor and it is available on the Learning Commons web site.
- The day before your test, call Kim Garner, 316-2451, and make an appointment to take the test. The Learning Commons is open for testing between 9 A.M. and 7 P.M Monday through Thursday and 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. on Friday.
- Arrive at the Learning Commons, on time, “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed” ready to take the test. Cell phones, books, notes, note-books, I-pods will not be allowed in the testing area unless allowed by the instructor. If you bring them, they will be placed in a closet during the test.
- Students will be asked to sign a statement of honesty prior to taking the test.
- Instructors must pick up the test from the Learning Commons.
Good Luck!
Note to Instructors:
Before granting academic accommodations, be sure to review the 504 plan with the student. |
