Ruckus

Guilford College is now providing its students a way to legally download digital songs, access movies and television shows, and share downloaded playlists.  Ruckus multimedia service is currently offering its music download service at no cost to current Guilford College students.

With this service students can legally share music, movies and television shows; create playlists; send personal media recommendations to friends; and browse classmate’s profiles and media libraries.  Students can build their libraries from Ruckus’ collection of more than 3 million songs, thousands of Hollywood movies, and hit TV shows legally. Enjoy music from your favorite artists, including Flo Rida, Akon, Taylor Swift, Josh Groban, Seether, Timbaland, e-40, Colbie Caillat, Dane Cook, Beck, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Amy Winehouse, Explosions in the Sky, Aesop Rock, Alicia Keys, Annuals, Badly Drawn Boy, Bayside, the Bled, the Bravery, Bloc Party, Busdriver, Cold War Kids, Ciara, Calla, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Catfish Haven, Christina Aguilera, Chromeo, Carrie Underwood, Colour revolt, Dr. Dog, Dirty on Purpose, Don Omar, Don Caballero, El-P, Evermore, the Fratellis, Fall Out Boy, The Faint…

Ruckus also offers a Facebook application for interested students, available at http://apps.facebook.com/ruckusnetwork.

Please note: Ruckus is only available for Windows. For Intel-based Mac users, Parallels or Apple's BootCamp can be used to run the program with a Macintosh.

To join Ruckus:

  • Go to http://www.ruckus.com
  • Click "Join Ruckus" on the right-hand side
  • Enter the appropriate information into the online registration form. Click "submit."
  • Ruckus will send you an activation email. Click the link in the email to activate your account. It will ask you to verify your password.
  • Download the Ruckus player from http://www.ruckus.com/ruckus/player/latest.do.
  • When prompted, click "Save." Open the file and a security warning will appear. Click "Run."
  • Walk through the installation process. If you encounter a window that says "System Restore is turned off," click OK.
  • Finish the setup. You should now be able to play and download songs from Ruckus.
