Associate Academic Dean
Guilford College Advising Mission Statement:
Steven Shapiro, Associate Professor of Physics, currently holds the position of Associate Academic Dean (AAD). Reporting directly to the Vice President and Academic Dean, Steve oversees academic advising, contributes to the College’s persistence and retention efforts, is responsible for grade appeals, adjudication of alleged violations of the academic honor code, and for enforcing College policy on academic probation, suspension, and dismissal. Steve conducts advising workshops for faculty advisors, conducts annual student evaluations of academic advising, assigns advisors to transfer students, and updates the Faculty Advisor’s Handbook. The academic advisor liaison, the coordinator of the First Year Experience, the director of the Honors Program, and the director of the Learning Commons report to the Associate Academic Dean. Please note: All registration- or transfer-related petitions should be directed to the Registrar, Norma Middleton (336-316-2151), whose decision is final. A denial of a registration- or transcript-related petition may only be appealed to the Associate Academic Dean on procedural grounds. Missing or unclear information?
